Nils Jönsson was born in Tingsryd in southern Sweden. Growing up in the forest, he heard a recording of oboe music and very much wanted to play it. He studied modern oboe with Ole-Henrik Dahl at Malmö Academy of Music before some studies in Literature and the Scandinavian languages at Vädjö University. After that he went with his baroque oboe to Hochschule für Künste, Bremen where he briefly studied with Michael Niesemann and then with Xenia Löffler .
